We spent the week looking at the book Handa’s Surprise. The book is about a young girl in an African village who decides to take a basket of tasty, healthy treats to her friend Akeyo, but some animals along the way have a different idea.
The children focused on the characters, trying to name each African animal and then the different types of tropical fruit in the story.
As part of the week the children tried some mango, passion fruit and avocado. For some, it was their first time trying any of these fruits and we had some very positive comments with mango being the most popular.
We finished the week with a role reversal. The children told Mr Stone the story , taking turns to predict what was going to happen on the next page.
What a great week!
