Remote Learning Policy

We hope that these home learning packs will help your time at home pass a little more quickly!

Ideas to support your EYFS, Nursery child:

  • Read a story and talk about the characters
  • Practise initial sounds as often as you can
  • Number games
  • Talk about shapes and find some in your home
  • Interact and play games
  • Explore the garden (What can you find?)
  • Look at the clouds (What can you see? Can you draw it?
  • Be creative – junk modelling
  • Lego and Duplo – build and create
  • Water play – use jugs, cups, tubes etc.
  • Puppet shows with toys

EYFS Home Learning Pack

Ideas to support your EYFS, Reception child:

  • Read a story and talk about the characters
  • Practise phonics as often as you can – try writing some words and sentences using the sounds you have learnt so far
  • Practise counting, recognising and using numbers to 20 (see previous home learning sheets)
  • Talk about 2D and 3D shapes and find some in the home
  • Letter and number formation
  • Interact and play games

EYFS Home Learning Pack

Ideas to support your Year 1 child:

  • Find objects around your home and use your phonics to label them.
  • Read a book everyday and write a sentence about what happened in the story, remembering to include capital letter and full stops.
  • Collect 10 pairs of socks, use them to practise counting in 2s
  • Get a pile of your favourite toys or Lego, group them into tens an ones and count how many you have
  • Get some seeds and plant them, record how high your plant grows each day.

Year 1 Practical Ideas

Learning to count is fun with this range of free educational games for Key Stage 1 children.

Ideas to support your Year 2 child:

  • Read everyday and practise Read, Write Inc sound chart
  • Write book reviews for the books you finish
  • Keep a diary (like Samuel Pepys)
  • Practise 2, 5 and 10 times tables
  • Complete calculations using all four operations (+, -, x and ÷)
  • Measure objects around your home and record the lengths
  • Go on a 3D shape hunt, write the names of all the shapes you find, then make a table and record the number of faces, edges and vertices for each object.
  • Collect some coins from your money box, list the coins you have and find the total amount. Try to make the same amount using different coins.
  • Write sentences using capital letters and full stops
  • Practise counting backwards in ones and tens (use a hundred square)
  • Practise counting in 3s
  • Identify 2D shapes and talk about their properties (sides, v, symmetry)
  • Research the Great Fire of London

RWI Phonics lessons at home from Monday 23rd March

We’re scheduling free Read Write Inc. Phonics lessons on Facebook and YouTube for children to watch at home; three short Speed Sound lessons with one of our trainers every day for the next two weeks. Films will only be available at the times below:

Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm (for children in Reception)

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm (For children in Reception and KS1 reading green books)

Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm (For children reading pink, orange, yellow, blue and grey books)

Note: films are streamed live and won’t be available at other times.
